In a school with two Assistant Headteachers, should their pay scale be the same ? Should they both be within leadership scale 2-5 for example, or would it be acceptable for one to be 2-5 and the other 3-6?
I have inherited a scenario with two leaders on different scales you see!

If the responsibilities of the two are largely the same and one is not obviously senior to the other (e.g., a DHT in all but name) then there should be parity.

The governors are responsible for allowing this situation to arise.

I would suggest you insist it is addressed pronto.

It’s almost certainly historic and, unless one of them has something very significant extra such as Senco, then it’s probably not justifiable.

Without going into too much detail I inherited a situation like this and have had to deal with it. Message me if you want more info.
