Part time issues

Discussion in 'Primary' started by mcd2000, Jan 27, 2011.

  1. Hi, I have currently got a teacher who went part time a few years ago wanting to be full-time again. The problem is the other teacher who shares her class was taken on on a permanent contract and is brilliant! does the part time teacher have any rights to come back full time?

  3. Once you've agreed to going part time, you cannot go full time unless a full time position becomes available. Does this person a PT contract? If so that's all she can do unless another position is available, not necessarily in the same class/role thogh.

  4. both are on a permanant contract.

  5. Therefore, if both are on a permanant part time contract the PT teacher who wants to be full time will only be able to go full time if a full time position becomes available.

  6. Ability doesn't come in to the equation - however tempting that would be. It is all down to the contracts that they are on. The PT one cannot demand a FT role even if one becomes available - they would have to apply for the FT post if the HT decides they want to advertise it out.
