Has anyone used one of these in class?

I've inherited one in my new school and while it has what appear to be useful functions such as freezing the screen, transferring the data to a PC, I can't get good traces on it. I'm trying to use it as I would a conventional one to view voltage traces (charging and discharging a capacitor) but it seems very sensitive to interference - or something else - that makes the traces appear overwhelmed by noise.

    Any ideas?
