In the late 80's a rather laid back Alsatian (dog) would come out from the frontier post on the Rhine between France and Germany wearing a smart little jacket with Zoll on it, sniff lazily in the direction of the coach and then go back in to continue its snooze. It must have retired along with its masters. From what I remember of my conversations with Alsatian friends they consider themselves Alsatian first and foremost-no wonder.
