On tenterhooks!

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by sammyTw, Feb 15, 2011.

  1. I had an interview yesterday for a job I really want. I thought it went fairly well and I got the impression the SMT liked me. Wether they liked me enough to give me the job or not remains to be seen!

I enquired as to when they would be making a decision. They replied that they thought they'd decide that afternoon, but that they were waiting on a few references still.

I'm on total tenterhooks now, cannot concentrate on anything, and with every hour that goes past I keep thinking it's less and less likely I've got the job.

Is it acceptable to call this afternoon to enquire as to how the process is going? They did specifically say they'd be contacting everyone when they had made the decision, so I don't want to be pestering them!

Do I just have to wait it out?

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

Hey, I'm in the same situation - except I had my interview today!!!

I wouldn't call up - they will let you all know... it's horrible waiting but you don't want to pester them.

    And stay positive :)

  3. I had an interview yesterday and was told I would have a call before 6pm. It was 645 when the head called - but I had got the job so I forgave her lol.
Try and keep busy whilst you are waiting and good luck :)

  4. Hi,

Have you both heard yet? I am also still waiting...

    Nail biting time . . .
Horrid for you, i know, but you just have to wait it out. Don't interrupt them by ringing.
Best of luck - hope to get several new threads called Dear Theo - I got that job!

  6. Nothing yet no.

I am fought the urge to call all of yesterday and today, but I finally caved at about 4pm today and emailed the Head. I have emailed before and found the head to be very friendly, so I figured there was no harm in it. I just enquired as to wether they hoped to reach a decision by half term. I phrased it quite carefully - not just asking if I'd got the job - but I'm still not sure I should have done. I just couldn't cope with the not knowing! Now that I've emailed though I'm definitely going to have to just wait. I also got the impression when I looked round that it was a tad disorganised, so maybe that's not helping them!

Could it possibly be a case of no news is good news? It's been 2 and a half days now!

Also, I've got another interview on Friday and it's for my second choice job. I'm not going to cancel this interview unless I know I have the job at school no1, so they need to hurry up :-( I am assuming I shouldn't be telling either school about other interviews I've had / will be having?

Having another interview is good news.
Having had Interview at School A, it is fine for you to e-mail them again and tell them that you have another interview at School B on Friday, and would like to know if they will have made their decision soon as they are your first choice school. Don't actually mention name of second school.
I suggest that you do that.
In the subject line, write: Interview at another school on Friday.
    Best wishes

  8. Thank you Theo!

Usually I'd be disheartened having not heard by now, but I do actually think they are just being a bit slow and disorganised rather than just ignoring me and being rude! (that's what I'm hoping anyway!)

  9. I still haven't heard!! I now think that no news must be bad news. I think I am going to call the school later this afternoon and see if I can speak to the head?

  10. I also have still not heard a thing. I just keep waiting, can't seem to concentrate on much and I keep looking at my phone and jump everytime my phone rings.

    Don't know what to think.

    I hope you hear soon.

  11. Have you heard yet Sammy?

    Any luck, yet? [IMG]

  13. No news yet.
We (the candidates) were told that they were not going to rush to inform us so I was not expecting to hear right away and we were warned, but all this waiting is horrible. Normally you find out on the day and the suspense is over.
Just trying to keep busy but it is really not working as all I can think of is the phonecall I am waiting for.

Oh my goodness, have read all this thread!! Am biting my nails!!! Please tell me you guys got the job!! Am crossing my fingers and toes for all of you!! Good luck! :)

  15. I finally found out last night.

Unsuprisingly, I didn't get it. I was a bit gutter, but to be honest mostly glad the wait was over!

I got some excellent feedback, so my confidence isn't knocked too much. It was my first ever teaching interview too so I wasn't really expecting to get it, I saw it as good experience. It was just a bit of a shame that my first ever interview was at such a lovely school :)

    Onwards and upwards!

I'm sorry that you have been disappointed, but you did well to be interviewed. Try and write out a review of which questions you were asked, how you think you might have done better, plus any helpful feedback that they gave you. This will all help for next time.
Good luck with the next one!
