Do they observe supply teachers ?
They will observe anyone who is teaching the children.
Well, they can observe anyone who is teaching the children. In practice, if a teacher is away short-term, this will be flagged up by the HT and the inspection team will generally avoid the supply teacher. However, if a supply teacher is in on a fixed term contract and is filling in long-term, then they are fair game.
Just had an inspection and, yes, they observed a short term supply teacher. By the way, they also observed LSAs working with intervention groups (twice!).
Am lucky no longer work in schools but my former establishment ( now an Academy) has Ofsted in this week and I believe they have lots of supply staff in.
