OCR Nationals Unit 12 - How does it work in practice?

I've not had to deal with OCR nationals before, but am being dropped in at the deep end with them in a new job. Unit 12 has caught my eye as an interesting concept, but how deos it work in practice?
Putting aside the hurdle of finding placements for a group of kids, what next?
It's down as a 40glh module, but I assume that includes the time in the placement + a little for the writeup? Can someone confirm if this works?
I've looked at the Gavcradd's workbook which looks very thorough, and would like to use this, but want to be confident of the results before what I imagine is a massive amount of work in finding placements!
Any info, positive or negative woudl be great!

We did it as part of work placement though mainly if there was IT involved - need to look at grading grid to figure what is needed in more detail!
