OCR Institutions AS Help Urgent

Discussion in 'Media studies' started by griffin0645578, Mar 7, 2011.

  1. Hello, I have recently taken over a media studies group. They arestudying towards OCR AS. Does any one have any resources/sowsfor the Institution section of the exam. I have tried searching but my school doesn't seem to have anything!! YOur help would be gratefully recieved.

  2. What are you focusing on? Film, music, magazines, etc ?

  3. Whichever is the easiest for a relatively low ability group. I was thinking either films or games. I am not a specialist so any help would be great.

  4. well if they're low ability then they shouldn't really be doing AS level. Some of the concepts are quite tricky...
I'd personally go with films: it's the most popular choice in the exam and you'll find enough material online.
If you're not a specialist then I suggest you get yourself a copy of the textbook pronto:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/OCR-Media-Studies-Julian-McDougall/dp/0340958987/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1299609204&sr=8-1
The text book gives you the background to Institutions and Audiences and also gives a fairly good grounding for studying film. You'll need to choose case study production studios: the exam board suggest doing two, a big Hollywood studio and then a smaller indie studio. A lot of people go with Warner Bros and then Working Title or Film Four.
There's a CD which comes with the text book: on there is a list of websites you may find useful for conducting research.
    Good luck!
