Hi a couple of people have mentioned using numicon to teach maths in Foundation is this making a comeback or has it never gone away? Anyone used it? do you rate it?
We use it across foundation and KS1 - fantastic and well worth investing.
We have always had it but I have never really seen the value of it until we had an excellent training session on it by a new teacher to the school. She explained how numicon gives the children a physical relevance to a usually hard to understand concept of a numeral. Since then I have been using it regularly with my F1 children and it is seeming so far to make mathematical ideas seem relevent and concrete to them. So I am a numicon convert
Sounds good might look into getting some
where can i find ideas for using it .we have it but I'm not familiar with how to make the most of it.
the nursery and firm foundations activity books are def worth the money if you can convince someone at your school to buy them
