I'll be starting my NQT year in September and have been told I'll have a second set year 7 class (which going by grades will be aiming for 3-5) I will have them lesson one and four on a Monday (so two lessons and a break in between) any tips on how to keep them engaged?

I think your Head of Department may be the one to approach ?

Teach your subject to the best of your ability. Follow the school's systems for praise and sanction. Ignore their target grades (even being aware of them in Year 7 is a fool's errand).

Don't assume that just because you've taught them something in the morning they'll remember it in the afternoon. Begin the second lesson with a recap of the first, just like if you taught them on separate days.
