NQT Registration Fees - Who Pays?

    Hi,

First time posting here but long time follower.

I've accepted a job in an independent school and they're supporting me with induction, but in the contract they specify that if I leave the school before induction's finished, I have to repay the school the cost of the registration fees.

Is this normal/allowed? I've checked Istip and they say "the fee MUST be paid by the school", but doesn't talk about 'repaying' the school. I can't find anything about this situation anywhere else either.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

if you are going for an NQT post then you should anyway be looking to complete 3 terms. There is no fee for teachers registering with NCTL so it is the cost of registering with the Independent School induction lot. As its part of an employment contract then it is legally binding and is normal practice by independent schools to reclaim fees or costs for training or courses.
