Now that all the money's been spent (and more)...

Would it really be too much to ask that they give it a rest and knock the adverts on the head over Christmas?

When they get around to asking my opinion of how the world could be improved, I'll tell them we need a break from being sold to for at least two days each year. The bleedin' shops are shut now for goodness sake. Get that advertising noise out of everyone's ear holes so we can start to contemplate peace on earth.

Then once we've done that, I propose that a limit on how much can be spent on any bank account in December is imposed, so we put a stop to the idea that spending money will provide the best Christmas ever and start thinking about what it is that actually makes for a good Christmas.

Without adverts and materialistic excess, what would Christmas be?

I must be a Duchess of Scrooge, as I absolutely loathe :mad:  eeek! but now that I've started I'll finish :mad: the commercialisation at this time of year. Retail festivities, kerching kerching, the marketing super, super superlatives, the frenzy of buying.

World, just stop it, even for one year. Please. Give us all a bit of peace.

You are such a nanny stater. People must do as you say and think as you do. Other people are not capable of making their own decisions.

I walked round town at about 6 tonight and there were people in most shops getting everything organized for the Boxing Day sale.
Next had closed at 3 and had done the sale racks earlier.
    It's terrible I think...

A time for family and friends? Maybe some spirituality and religion of each and every person choice?

Thought you'd be up for that...

Most of the sales have already started.

Not that I've even been looking let alone ordered anything.....

    Farcical.

Oh, hang on though, next year I'll be having my Christmas in February so as to avoid the cynical over pricing of everything on the run up to the 25th December: Festive February.

    Why?
I read your original post. You seem to think you know what is good for adults; rather than letting them decide for thenselves.

When you read my original post, asterisks, you'll have noted it began with this:

i.e. the proposal of a topic for debate which would welcome opinions from all quarters. If you have an opinion on this yourself, don't be shy about letting it be heard.

My opinion is that people can decide for themselves how much to spend. This aspect of their lives shoiud not be regulated by others. It something of a Victorian idea that a repectable middle class should regulate how the working class must live their lives correctly.

I read in the paper last year that some people are having Christmas after Christmas Day so that they can buy presents, food, wrapping paper, etc at half price.

What on earth do they do on Christmas Day?
