Norman based trip?

Discussion in 'History' started by Hapton, Jun 29, 2011.

  1. We are starting to develop our curriculum around a strong hook and a exciting outcome, I was wondering if anybody knew of a good norman trip around lancashire (we are in Burnley). I know the Lancaster Maratime Museum did a good viking one but alas no vikings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thought of York? I do an annual Year 7 trip there in the Summer. Some of the sites are more later Middle Ages (e.g. Barley Hall) but there's plenty of Norman stuff at Clifford's Tower and the Minster, not to mention the Jorvik Viking Centre for the earlier period.
  3. Could you not tie in the Normans with a Viking visit if nothing else is available? After all the Normans were settled Vikings. Would it be possible to visit a local Norman fortfication?
