No evidence that academies are better

A recent conversation on the Supply Teacher Forum alluded to the "bureaucratic nightmare" (sic) of local Government. We are being softened up to accept massive cuts to local services in the belief that County Halls were full of people doing nothing who deserved to get the sack. It took the Chair of Oxford County Council to point out to an Oxfordshire resident (a certain Mr Cameron) who complained about cuts to frontline services, that backroom staff had been cut back to a minimum, and yet still it appears that LEA schools are outperforming academies. So why the push to academise when the evidence is not there that they are any better? Even on a shoestring, LEA schools, on aggregate are delivering the goods.

Poor guy - he'll probably get a visit from OFSTED soon, and find the school's downgraded!

Have to agree. He has made quite a few attacks on the establishment and is coming across quite naive at times. Easy prey.

Because Academies are pushed by ideology, not by evidence.

They are an experiment that appeals to a 'free market' mindset while having nothing to do with the market. It's why they like 'Free Schools'... got the word Free in there see.

Academies are simply used to cut costs in education mainly teachers pay and a step in removing conditions of service. Academies and free schools can appoint anyone, no need for QTS.
One of the worst ideas in education and the half wit who brought this into existence has long gone what an A hole.
