Some of the woes facing North Lanarkshire Council....

NLC fined for not having enough teachers

NLC Director of Education suspended over allegations of claiming for "ghost teachers"

NLC spent a fortune giving 4 year enhancements to 163 early retirees only to have a teacher shortage (the other 31 authorities only had 168 retirees with enhancement combined)

We had a teacher who retired less than a month after her 55th birthday with a 4 year enhancement now back on supply.

I work in the NLC area and I hear on the grapevine that the authority cannot supply subject specialists to cover for maternity leave cover.
Instead general supply is being used, including folk who received the 4 year enhancement last June.
    Heads must roll!!!

We are short of subject specialists for maternity leave and, indeed, vacancies! 163 staff from 23 schools received the enhancement. Fair enough if we did really have a surplus of teachers!

Also doesn't help when you are on the supply list but have not had a single phone call in 11 months!!!!!!!

    That's a disgrace.
Many council HRs are not fit for purpose.

HR departments are not pro-active, and it cost to advertise. Combine that with having to update pvg for every council by presenting yourself in person, even when you've already completed one a year earlier. The whole system stinks. I've not had a single call since august (got work at the moment) and I've been taken off several lists because my pvg is out of date after 6 months. Crazy system putting barriers in the way at every turn. You would think they would be desperate to recruit Physics teachers.

Glasgow is a case in point......for personal reasons haven't worked for them for 6 months now been put off the supply list and have to re-apply and thus pay for a new PVG!
Then they wonder why they can't get supply!!!!!! Geeza break!!!

Fiduncan - I'm sure this is an obvious question but have you called them? Just making sure they haven't forgotten you exist?
