New website to help tackle the issue of forced marriages

Discussion in 'PSHE' started by gailrobinson, Jul 19, 2011.

  1. Hi all,
I thought this new website from the Government's Forced Marriage Unit might be useful.
According to the government stats this summer over 350 young people will be forced to marry someone against their will and as a result may not return to their classrooms next academic year.
The site provides support to vicitms of forced marriage as well as training and guidance to professionals working with victims or potential victims.

Hi Gail, There's another organisation called Karma Nirvana who support victims of forced marriage. They were set up by a lady who ran away from home to escape being forced into marriage but sadly her sister was married to a man who treated her badly. She became so depressed that she committed suicide. The lady who set up the charity is called Jasvinder and she is interviewed about her experiences on our sister website http://www.healthtalkonline.org/Dying_and_bereavement/Bereavement_due_to_suicide/People/Interview/1641/Category/179
Click on theunderlined headings to watch videos of her interview.
    All the best,
    Jo
