New to Reception

Discussion in 'Early Years' started by podgekin, Jul 14, 2011.

  1. Hi all,
I am new to reception and a wee bit nervous... I am kicking off the autumn term with Heroes as the theme. I was thinking of looking at comics, cartoons, historical heroes, local heroes and hero in my life. Does anyone have any suggestions for activities, role play etc. I am revamping the room and the outdoor area too so open to many ideas.

    Thank you
  2. A superhero base can be good - you could have a phone, writing implements, a screen and home made or improvised costumes . Model taking in calls for help, writing them on a sheet and delivering them to the superhero to go and deal with. Great if you can link it to the outdoors so they can go off in rockets, cars, (boxes) bikes etc then they can come back and report their success (draw a picture) to the base. Make sure you have plenty of capes (bits of old fabric) and some super wrist watches with buttons and microphones (kitchen roll tubes and wool to tie them on)

    Good luck.

In reception it is child led so what you could do is explain the theme to the children and how we are going to change the role play area - what could we do. Get it all from the children. Get them to make stuff or bring stuff in for it. That is what I am doing.
    Good Luck
  4. Thank you for the ideas! I am getting so nervous!
