New Teacher's Standards 20011

It provides a specific focus on the teaching of systematic synthetic phonics as an essential component of the teaching of early reading. This is set out in the new Teachers’ Standards (DfE 2011) as follows:
    Standard 3 A teacher must demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
    • if teaching early reading, demonstrate a clear understanding of systematic synthetic phonics
