New KS4 specs

Discussion in 'Science' started by jrs64, Mar 8, 2011.

  1. What are others' thoughts on the new GCSE specs? We currently do OCR 21st Century Science (Core + Additional or Additional Applied, with one group doing all 3 Sciences as an option) and have trialled BTEC Science with one group this year. Our current plan is to drop Additional Applied Science as it won't count for the EBacc, but perhaps carry on BTEC with one or two classes that would not get C-grades at GCSE.

However, with OCR still not being accredited, and some improvements to Edexcel specifications compared with their 2006 versions, we're considering switching exam boards. We prefer the look of the controlled assessment, but don't like that the three exams for Core are Biology, Chemistry, Physics rather than a mix of all three in each. Also, we've heard that Longman aren't doing new resources for the OCR specs. We will probably want to buy in some resources to adapt.

    Thank you for any insight.

  3. We are thinking about edexcel too... I thought that Collins did the resources for OCR - someone will sell you something!

  4. OCR specific books are being published by Oxford Press

We are deciding on which spec to use. if you look carefully AQA offer to forms of assessment B,C P exams or two combined exams in Jan and Jun. If you look at edexcel thet offer B, C P exams but in Nov, March and June. The CAU look similar to the POAE investigations from previous years. The AQA CAU looks the closest to their current ISA. The questions is to aggregate at the end of year 10 which is the best option.
