New job after maternity leave.

Discussion in 'Pay and conditions' started by tomtortoise, May 13, 2011.

  1. I am on maternity leave at the moment and am due to return in July. I have managed to secure two job interviews next week but wasn't sure of the impact this will have on maternity pay if I'm fortunate enough to get either one of the jobs. I teach in England at the moment and having spoken to HR was told that leaving for another LA wasn't a problem and I wouldn't have to pay my occupational maternity pay back.

One of the jobs is in a Welsh school, do the same rules apply? I need to know whether changing to a school in another country would mean I would be required to pay it back.

If this is the case, then I'll have to pull out of the interview as I can't afford it. (But would solve my additional problem of two interviews in the same week!!! )

    This is a difficult one.
Officially, if you change school even then your LA may be entitled to demand back part of your maternity pay. Now it may be that your current LA doesn't do that if you're staying in teaching, but you can only be certain of that by getting that information from them.
