  1. That was really helpful to read - I'm also marking for the first time, same spec and tier. My main query is about the difference between the different codes for the online marking software - is the OLS different from e-Marker? It's a little confusing, even after all of the online tutorials...

    Yes. OLS stands for Online Standardising and this system is only used for the initial standardising and some sampling part way through the marking. If you are marking 3712, 4701 or 4702, Legacy & new spec Literature) you will be marking paper scripts (after online standardising) and entering your marks electronically on a system called QMS, which is part of emarker! You will soon get used to what all the different systems are!
    If you are marking 4700 or 4705 (the new spec English/English Language), you will be marking on CMI+ which means you read and mark everything on screen.
