I know this is only a forum, but please write in decent English if you want help.
What subject are you thinking of teaching? There is a lot of demand for some, lots of competition for others and in any case you'll struggle to find a job unless you have a degree in the subject you want to apply for.

  8. I wasn't aware that i had to write in standard english to get help.
I have graduated with a PGCE in Primary Education and specialised in Science, so I am looking to do Secondary Science. I have done some reseaech, but was wanting some advice from people in Secondary schools as i cannot ring schools due to summer holidays.
    What route should i take?
As far as i am aware i need to do a top up course, is that correct?

Depends on a number of factors. If you want to teach secondary science straight off - you will probably need to undertake a conversion course. However, if you are prepared to be patient you could get into secondary teaching via an alternative route - if for example a school is looking for a primary trained teacher to work with Year 7 SEN students. You might then be able to move onto subject-specific teaching once you have your 'feet under the table'. [IMG]. Or you could start off as a TA - some secondary schools have TAs with a special interest, or a degree, in a particular subject and are allocated solely to that department/ faculty. Also, some schools may be interested in you if you are a graduate in a shortage subject - you're not a physics or maths graduate by any chance, are you?

It just grates when teachers write like kids, that's all.
My point was, is your degree in science? I know you said you specialised in science for your primary PGCE, but it doesn't always follow that this was what your degree was in. If it WAS science, you'll find it a lot easier to find employment in a secondary school.

  11. I only specialised in science BUT that wasnt the main bulk of my degree, therefore, i was wondering if there are any short courses out there to do to become a secondary science or maths teacher.

  12. I am primary trained and taking up my first post as SEN teacher in a secondary school - trying to get my head around planning for 3 year groups and having a form group. It can be done though!

  13. I'm primary trained and have taught primary for a few years now. Moving to teach year 7 in a secondry school, as they wanted primary trained teachers to teach a new transitional integrated curriculum. I'm excited and nervous as I'm sure there's a lot I don't know about secondaries yet! I will also be a form tutor for a vertical tutor group, so cant quite get away with just the little ones!!

This is something I really want to do too. Have developed a love for maths. But I would like to enhance my own maths knowledge through qualification/s before applying for a job. So looking for maths courses at my local college.

Hello to all in the teaching fraternity. I'm looking towards a new challenge and am excited about the idea of moving from primary to secondary school. I am a practising artist and currently coordinate art, display and a host of other responsibilities attached to my leadership role. Any advice is welcomed as I'm currently looking for suitable vacancies.
