Plymouth boy, 13, told to cover up after turning up for school in his mother's bikini

'Tyler Pickering, aged 13, was told to change into his sports kit by teachers after turning up for school dressed in his mum's pink bikini.

The Lipson Co-operative Academy Year 9 student decided to wear the revealing outfit for the school's mufti day on Thursday to raise awareness of breast cancer.

    [...]

The teenager's dad, Scott Pickering, told the Herald he understood the school's decision but said Tyler was not trying to cause offence.

He said 'I understand where they are coming from but he wasn't doing it to laugh at cancer - he did it because he's 13 and he doesn't care what he looks like."'

    [...]

In primary school Tyler turned up in a bumblebee costume complete with a tutu to raise money for Children in Need

    [...]

Principal Steve Baker said staff at the school were not "kill joys" but that Tyler was revealing "too much".'

With all these modern parents, perhaps schools do need 'gender champions'. Stop forking out for textbooks, you lot, and do a Wellington.

Oh, for a return to simpler and gentler times

Boy turns up to school in something a bit daft. Is asked to change, complies, parent understands decision. Where's the story?

Local rag: No story, lots of advertising. Opportunity to link to other Education News discussions: Cross-curricular themes are all the rage, apparently.

It doesn't matter what the cause or the event, there are things you don't show up at school in. Yer mam's bikini is one of them.

Was Malcolm based on Jeremy Corbyn? Or the other way round?
