Hi, I've just taken over as the French teacher in a Special School and would like to know if anybody out there can help me sort out what is and isn't statutory? I'm teaching KS3 and 4. I suppose really what I'm asking is, given that almost all the children in the school will be unable to reach beyond Level 2, is it okay to take a drastically different approach to French? (I have no choice in fact!) And is it therefore okay to miss out some components of the NC PoS (eg grammatical manipulation)? Common sense tells me Yes, but I'd like to have some solid information from somewhere, and I've scoured the DfEE site in vain! Thanks.
