Next week we have to do a whole school maths workshop for parents after school. Initially the head wanted each teacher ( and we have 4 classes as Yr R are doing something separate) to do a short presentation lasting about 5 to 10 mins to the whole school, He has been persuaded that we would rather do something a little more practical and hands on in our individual classrooms, partially because we think it will be slightly less daunting and mainly because we think it will be more meaningful. Having said all this l am now at a loss as to what l should do. I am a Year 2 teacher and l would be really grateful for some simple practical suggestions that l can do with the parents. I do not really want to stand at the front and talk as we will have about 30 -40 mins. Our main focus will be number and the 4 operations. The workshop is a result of our parents saying that they do not understand the way we teach maths and therefore they do not feel able to support their children at home.
Thank you in advance for your help.
