Maths teaching assistant interview questions

Discussion in 'Mathematics' started by stevencarrwork, Jul 1, 2010.

  1. On Tuesday I have an interview for a maths teaching assistant post.

It is a one year contract, because of funding.

What sort of questions may I be asked, and what would be good answers?

I don't have direct experience of the interview process for TA posts, but I would have thought that it would focus on interaction with pupils, rather than on level of maths knowledge.
Maybe a list of desirable attributes for a TA to have would be useful - you could then work out how to show that you have these?
    Here is a start:
    • understands the maths
    • can be flexible with different methods
    • can wait - doesn't just tell the pupil the answer
    • can explain concepts/ideas
    • can multitask
    • has classroom 'presence'
    • has patience
