Maths Schemes/Planning

Discussion in 'Mathematics' started by stiernan30, Jul 22, 2011.

  1. Just wondered what colleagues use in their schools (Primary) to teach Maths.
Are teachers in your school following the Numeracy Framework?
Do any schools follow the key objectives from the 'old' National Strategy?
Can anyone recommend a Maths Scheme?
Does anyone use 'Abacus' scheme and would you recommend it?
Would appreciate any feedback - we are a newly amalgamated three form entry primary school - wanting to ensure continuity and to support staff in their teaching of Maths.

  2. I would use the old framework definitely, although their are some useful bits from the new one which you can use to supplement your resources. I think Abacus is a good choice if you are looking to buy a scheme, though my advice would be to choose which parts you buy/how many text books per class etc to make sure it is used as a resource and not followed from beginning to end and to the exclusion of all else!!
    Hope that's helpful [IMG]
