Maths and Enterprise

Discussion in 'Mathematics' started by mystique_scarlet2006, Jan 28, 2012.

  1. I am the PSHCE and Enterprise Co-Ordinator for an 11-16 all girls school in a deprive suburb of Birmingham

As part of my role, my SMT has asked me to run and co-ordinate an Enterprise Week across the whole school. The main aim would be to promote Enterprise opportunities as well as making links between Enterprise and curriculum based subjects.

I was just wondering if anyone had any creative or unusual ideas of links I could make between Enterprise and Mathematics as part of a lesson? I am hoping to provide some suggested lesson ideas that teachers could use through the week, and any ideas would be GREATLY appreicated!!!!

  2. I was about to reply to this with a few ideas, and as I signed in your near-identical request in History caught my eye on the home screen. I had to check if you were asking in the Business Studies and PSHE forums... it looks to me as if you're just asking people to pretty much do your job for you next week I'm afraid.

  3. Far from it!
All of the subjects you mentioned are NOT my specialist areas - English is - and although I have some knowledge of these subjects, getting ideas from subject specialists who know what they are talking about in those areas just seems to me like gaining valuable perspective different from my own!
And yes, I have posted this thread onto several forums for the reason that I wanted to gather ANY ideas given from as many different sources as I could.

  4. But you've been appointed the PSCHE & Enterprise Coordinator despite not having subject-specific knowledge of these areas? You're an English specialist, but you've posted the same request for ideas in the English forum? I just don't get it. I'll try to be a bit more helpful - what ideas have you got so far? We can come up with suggestions on where maths might come up in them.
