    Hi,

    I’m currently nearly halfway
through a 12-month maternity cover contract and have been finding things pretty
tough – teaching a subject I’ve got very little previous experience in and
having a fractious relationship with the head (which has worsened in recent
weeks as she’s attempted on several occasions to pressure me into being subject
leader for a subject which I only teach for an hour a week and have absolutely no knowledge of!). My contract
specifies that both myself and the school only need to give each other notice
of one week if I/they wish to end it. I’m a little worried that if things
worsen between myself and the head, she might try to get rid of me before the
12 months is up. Is she allowed to do this without good reason (incompetence,
etc), or am I in a fairly strong position simply through having a written
    contract?
