Hello, wondered if anyone had suggestions for songs and poems suitable for Y1? Thanks.

The first one that comes to mind is The Wise Man and the Foolish Man:

On the Sing Up site too is this song:

Although the obvious link for this is a unit on sound, you could instead focus on the materials that are used to make musical instruments and the suitability of materials for this purpose. What materials make a good shaker? Why wouldn't cotton wool work well?
This next song - although Sing Up have it as a KS1 song - is probably too difficult for Y1. It is all about recycling:

There is a poem in The Works - again I'm a bit worried this is too difficult to use - but it might inspire so I'll suggest it.
The Model We're Making in Class with Miss by Paul Cookson.
    Scissors, glue, yoghurt pots,
    Sellotape, a cornflake box,
    egg cartons, bottle tops,
    rubber gloves, dad's old socks
    is how it starts.
    Hope this is helpful!
