We are a small school with all classes being mixed ages. Is anyone else in this position and trying to deliver the maths to several year groups, all of whom are supposed to be doing their own year group work? We know there are gaps so are trying to address these but every time we think we have an idea, something causes us to question our thoughts.
Can see how fluency, deep learning and mastery would work in single age, but struggling with two and in one case three different year groups in a class.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Hi I am teach in a federation of small schools. In my class at the moment I have year 2,3,4,5and 6. I am also a mastery specialist teacher for the NCETM - if I can help in any way please let me know.

You certainly have your work cut out for you!!!

We really like the Maths Hub mastery materials but are finding the problem of teaching different objectives to different year groups very challenging. I can see how you would all do a similar aspect of maths e.g. place value. But as things are now so specific for each year group I am struggling to support staff. Am I simply making the problem harder than it actually is?
We have the progression materials from NCETM so can track across year groups.

Quite simply - can you give a brief glimpse into how you organise a maths session with mixed ages?

    Any help much appreciated!!

I mean 'how you organise a maths session with mastery, mixed ages and the new curriculum'.

Have just found progression maps on NCETM for each strand, they should be helpful.

Some action research on mixed-age mastery is being done with clusters of schools in my area. This is being funded by our NCETM maths hubs. The findings will be shared once the research is concluded. PM me if you want to know more.

Not sure if previous comment worked - I teach mixed year 5/6 class and trying to use a mastery approach - any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
