  1. Has anyone done this course?
What did you think? was it worth doing? How much time did it take in terms of day to day extra work?
I am in a school that has recently come out of special measures and maths was high lighted as an area of weakness. it has been suggested that i do this course which i am more than happy to do as long as i don't end up with no free time at all.
any ideas / comments welcome - as long as they're not rude![IMG]

  3. I have just finished the MaST programme. As I was in the first cohort we actually got paid for participating ( £1000 for year 1 and £2000 for completing year 2) This has since finished.
If I had not got renumeration then I would not have completed the course - there is a lot of extra work and 4 assignments each year. The Maths is aimed generally at UPKS2 and was hard to adapt for KS1 children.
The Maths was very problem solving based and di not match my expectations or increaing achievemnet and progress.
    good luck with your decision

  4. I was also in the first cohort, and although we got paid (£1000 for the first year, and we're still waiting for the second payment), I would have done it anyway.
My specialism is maths, and although I have good subject knowledge, I learnt so much about the teaching and learning side of it. I think my own practice has improved, and I got some great ideas too. There were two weekend residentials,a few Saturdays, and some afternoon sessions to do. There were also two big assignments to complete, which I managed to get done in about two days for each one.
We were supposed to produce a Learning Log, which was a bit hit and miss. Some people put an enormous amount of effort into it, only for the tutors not to bother with it. I didn't produce a file, and was told that they would definitely need to look at one (typical). I found the whole file thing a real ball ache, and it didn't help me with the assignments. There is some reading to do, but I found this useful.
With hindsight, I would definitely do it again.
