    Hi all,

My school has a 3 weekly marking policy and states in those 3 weeks you only have to mark 1 piece of work, which is fair for all teachers.

I only see my students once a week, I mark their work every 3 lessons. However as I only see my students once a week, I teach 17 different classes; some of which are not my specialism.

To stay on top of marking I have to mark minimum 5 different sets of books every week, most of the time 6. If i don't I am snowed under with marking and physically cannot get through it. Its really sad (or sensible depending on your point of view) I have a chart pinned to my wall, telling me which group's books I am going to mark each week. This means some groups get marked after 1 lesson, some after 2 etc. This is another challenge as I cannot produce a marking "sticker" so to speak to ease this, as I am marking different pieces/level of work for different year groups.

Is it just me, or are there other teachers out there facing the same issues? If so what strategies do you use or tips you could give me?

    Thanks in advance!!!

In my old school I had to mark every book every fortnight. Every piece of work had to be marked and assessed, with a sticker added with comments. Nobody gained anything from this, but it was what I was told to do. I just had to suck it up and do it. One or two sets of books a night. I tried to put a small class (maybe 20) with a big class (up to 36) so that it evened out a bit.

I only worked about 65 hours a week.
