They do not care that much about the fans, only their own curious view that being homosexual will lose them fans. I say curious as there seems to be little evidence this is so - Brits of the 70s and 80s if we talk of generations were brought up on 'gay' music/ians. Well OK, Bowie was the most female bedding 'bi' guy ever... The strange thing is indeed why gay musicians inwardly see this as an issue. As said, it is fear of losing money I think.
