    If you want to marvel (or despair) at the state of education in this country, a half-hour spent trawling through school display policies online will show you how bizarrely insane some headteahcers can be.

    “Staples must be horizontal” stood out, as well as an incoherent mistake-filled sentence in a policy which insisted that all writing on display must be proof-read.

    In the 80s display was everything. In the 90s I worked for someone known as Mrs Drape. Ten years ago we were well into working walls which seemed good to me. But there's nothing new about obsessive prettifying.
