Looking for plenary ideas

Does anyone have any good ideas for effective plenaries? I'm a trainee English teacher and my university tutor is really critical of them but I think that they can be invaluable in gathering evidence of learning if they are used well. So far, I have done a lot of group work where one member of the group reports their findings back to the rest of the class. I've also done one or two poster activities.
    Thanks in advance!

PROVE IT! This is a small slip you can design with your learning objectives on them. Students need to refer back to the lesson objectives and do some DIRT (dedicated, improvement, reflection time). Under or next to each objective, they need to identify the 'proof' of their learning (identify the task, the answer, a target or even state that they still don't know it?)
