London teenagers academically outperformed by peers in many other world cities

    The link in the article leads to a personal blog that doesn't have the information that it implies that it does.

    In addition it names two US states and three Canadian provinces. I believe that there are 50 US states (including New York - probably the best comparison), and 10 provinces most of which are not mentioned.

    Also, Helsinki and Maastricht are hardly comparable to London. How about Rome, Paris or Berlin?

    China and the Far-East? We know that PISA isn't letting them compete in the future as individual cities, and is instead asking China to compete as a whole. They had a hissy fit, and have refused to take part. That doesn't even take into account the accusations of cheating and bussing in top students from other provinces that China has been accused of.

    It's a hatchet job, that will no doubt be used as an excuse for yet more market based reforms. The irony, sadly, is that the only evidence provided by PISA on these kind of reforms (Sweden), are that they are entirely counterproductive.

    Maybe not, but there are some lovely coffee shops and bars in and around Russell Square.
