Linking Yr4 'Journeys' topic with Geography?

I have an idea to link this term's art 'Journeys' topic with the Village in India topic that we are studying. Much of the planning available for 'Journeys' focusses on Aboriginal art but think it could also link nicely with Indian art. Or perhaps just using the colours, pattern & designs inspired by India to create more abstract artwork?

Anyone done anything along these lines or have any fabulous ideas?

    Many thanks!!
  2. Maybe use the spice trade journeys as starting points or patterns of migration and the wealth of colour and pattern that has accompanied them. The colors of spices would be worthy of playing with - dying fabric or paper - making paper with cumin, coriander seeds or marigold petals. Hindu temple art and Mehndi (henna tattoo) patterns. That could lead to line work - prints etc. there are wonderful stories from the Hindu traditions which could spark illustrative imagery. Never forget the aesthetic qualities of food, too (always happy to have an excuse for a feast)! ... Oh, there's a wealth of material there and you've given me some ideas for developing a KS3 SoW :)
