Letter joins - can anyone help?

Discussion in 'Primary' started by angelicteacher, Jan 10, 2012.

  1. I am teaching year 1 and I have been told that I need to get my class joing by summer term - the Higher Ability and Middle ability!
Now I know there are joins that get taught upper in school and I've been trying to link the words to Letters and sounds, but I need to go back to basics I think and teach them in the order the letters should be joined?
I think the first one should be the ladder letters (not sure what it is called vertical join??) so the l to i, l to a etc, I know the next join could be the horizontal join - the o with a flick so making ol, ox, but what are the other joins??
I've spent tonight googling an nothing is coming up? I found the join website but you needed to be a member?

sorry for a long post but I am at my wits end so any help would be good!

Does your school follow a scheme? Are there teacher books for that to help you? If not, perhaps it might be best if you invest in a book to guide you - something like this:

    There's also a Book 2:

Have you seen the resources that Bev Evans has uploaded for handwriting? Here are a few that you might find interesting:
