Lathe former needed.

  1. Does anyone have a 3 Jaw Chuck for a centre Lathe which they no longer need/use?
    A students wishes to make a domed cylinder for graphics packaging but needs a former.
    Any ideas techies?
    Our school is based in the North East of England.
  2. <font face="Calibri">Try blow moulding your dome. Cut hole, size of required dome, in sheet of MDF. Adjust clamps on Vacuum former for extra thickness of wood plus plastic. Clamp MDF over plastic in vac machine. Heat as normal and instead of sucking out air, blow air. Have wadge of wet paper towel or garden water spray to quickly cool plastic. Have also had success with hot air gun. If you&rsquo;re doing multiples watch MDF does not char. Sand a slight radius on underside of hole to prevent scratching of dome. Good for transparent domes as no wood grain pattern on inside of dome. Careful not to over inflate or BANG! Napalm everywhere (no it only pops or splits, honest).</font>
