Latest on ********** - in court today

Discussion in 'Early Years' started by Elementis, Jan 8, 2010.

  1. Brenden has very kindly collected info on the latest from various places on the web and put it all together: I've copied and pasted here.............. if TES will allow it to stay.
    Thanks to Brenden.

<h1>What is happening with **********</h1>The following information has been pieced together from various sources of information across the internet. Sources have been provided where possible. Accuracy cannot be guaranteed, however the information obtained is taken directly from official and/or media sources. Brendenisteaching.com has no relation whatsoever to **********.co.uk or its owners, and this page is hosted at this location purely for convenience. If Samuel King comes back from a holiday in Hawaii and wonders what everyone is going on about, we are all going to be mightily embarrassed. <h3>What happened?</h3>The owner and operator of **********, Samuel Kinge (formerly Daniel Kinge), was accused of and found guilty of an offense. The nature of this offense is not known, but his first offense (before he changed his name) was creating and being in possession of indecent images of children. This was done while Daniel was working as a teacher, and he kept a number of the images on a laptop which he took to school with him.
<h3>Where is this information coming from?</h3>The first website to have any official notice regarding this revelation is http://wisenet.wiltshire.gov.uk/documents/dsweb/GetRendition/Document-9178/html
The website's official WHOIS record provides this:
This information is public and available by searching for the WHOIS records of '**********.co.uk' on the Nominet Website. What is more telling is that the information for sparklebox2.co.uk puts his name as Samuel KINGE (not King)
<h3>How else do you know it's him?</h3>1) Look at the image on this article: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/coventry_warwickshire/4279523.stm
    2) Look at this picture ********** posted of himself: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=200849326&albumID=422428&imageID=1455129
<h3>I thought the whole problem was just about the website</h3>The website was initially blocked because of security concerns regarding the toolbar. This was just a front, as the authorities could not release details of the actual reason without jeapordising any investigations. The toolbar is mostly safe but the recommendation is that you uninstall the toolbar just in case. There is no risk of the toolbar being used to send your personal information to ********** because the toolbar was generated by Conduit, a company that only allows limited modification of its generated toolbars and does not provide "espionage" as one of its options.
<h3>Why haven't we heard from him?</h3>The official report is that he is currently in prison on remand. This means he is locked away while they decide what his punishment will be. The implications of this are that the offense was serious enough to require he be kept in prison, and that the specific sentence requires an amount of time and a seperate court visit to decide.
<h3>When and where is the sentencing?</h3>According to this information website: http://www.courtserve.net/courtlists/current/crown/indexdailies.htm
Worcester daily courtroom, 08/01/10. Scroll down to click on the courtroom on the date, and you'll look down to see "KINGE Samuel" under "Commital for sentence". Direct link to this page
<h3>Tell me more about his previous offenses</h3>During an online sting by the FBI called "Operation Jinks", Daniel Kinge's name came up in relation to another individual in the US. After Daniel was arrested on the 18th of November 2004, they found 115 indecent images of children in three laptops. Two of those laptops were kept at Wellesbourne Church of England Primary School where he worked at as a primary teacher. He also admitted nine charges of actually taking indecent images of children himself, and has been referred to as part of a "British group in an international paedophile ring". He was sentenced in January at Warwick Crown Court. He was sentenced to jail for nine months and banned from using the internet and from working with children, but the internet ban was lifted on the 18th of February, 2005.

<h3>What are teachers/schools doing?</h3>Many teachers are only finding this out because their school or district has abruptly started blocking the website. Once it is discovered that the website poses no risks (if that is the case, whch I believe it is), it may become unblocked again, but that will never remove the sense of violation that many appear to be feeling about the site. Those who run competing teacher resource websites have pounced upon the opportunity to advertise themselves as "********** alternatives", while other teachers have decided that this is a wake-up call to start making their own resources.
<h3>What will happen to the website?</h3>Nobody knows at this point. Sam (Dan) has always maintained that he has other people working on the website but none have yet to come forward. It very much depends on the sentence: as nobody knows what it is he has alledgedly done, nobody can guess what the sentence may be like. He may be back online within months, or within years. He may be back next Wednesday. Whatever happens, perhaps now classrooms will start to look progressively less like ********** advertisements and more like individualised places of learning again.

  3. The court link now seems to have sentencing listed for 11th Jan for Daniel Kinge.

  4. I'm not sure but I think that date may relate to the case above, not Kinge's.

  5. I meant Samuel Kinge - but they are the same person, Shalala!

  6. I realise that Feenie. What I mean is that the date above Kinge's name (11.01.10) looks like it refers to the case above Kinge's, as it says trial. Kinge's is just sentencing. :)

  7. Right, gotcha - sorry. Yes, it does look as if it refers to the case above now you mention it. Wonder what happened, then?

  8. Hi,
I haven't posted for ages, but it was on the local radio yesterday, he was sentenced to a year in prison.

  9. Blimey! Thanks for the update.
What on earth does an intelligent person do whilst in prison for a year in prison. What on earth possessed him to not only do it once but then do it again. You'd have thought being in prison the first time would have been enough. Addiction..............
The mind boggles. Though he's probably already served 3 months since he stopped posting anything at the end of September.
Has he been banned from the Internet properly this time one wonders.

  10. Did they say why he was sentenced to one year, as at the moment all we have is the sentence?

  11. A year doesn't seem long does it, considering he got 9 months for his first offence.

  12. It of course depends on what his offence was. As we don't know we can't say whether it's long or not.

  13. i can seem to find it!

  15. I can't fund it either. The link just keeps taking me to the BBC iplayer home page. When I type it in it says it's not recognised. Which prog is it? Tv or radio? Ta

  16. From the radio report:

...'and has had various restrictions put on his use of the internet'... Wonder what that means exactly.

  17. if you listen at 2:03 (ish) there is a more detailed report
