Laura Smith, the Labour MP for Crewe and Nantwich, has called for a general strike to help bring down the Conservative government - if there isn't a general election.

She spoke at Momentum [Yeah! Who would've guessed!] organised The World Transformed festival, which is running alongside the Labour Party conference in Liverpool.

A general strike to bring down a democratically elected government because a minority doesn't like it??? o_O

Stupid, stupid, STUPID woman! Can she not tell the difference between anarchy and democracy?

Is the best thing to be said of the Conservative Party that it was 'democratically elected'?

Come on, nomad; she's obviously a good democrat and when she gets power she will make a paradisaical socialist workers' heaven. So good there will be no need to strike for better conditions or argue for better pay or else.

I saw her speak at a Labour Conference Fringe event the other day. She wasn't very impressive. She also has the smallest Labour majority, so may not be a problem for long ...

Do not count her out now that she has Momentum firmly on side. She may have a majority measured in tens but she overturned one measured in thousands.

    So she certainly had momentum.

    Some would call her impetuous.

Keep calm. It was a fringe event. No chance of it being taken up. The General Strike of 1926 was a failure. The speech got her noticed though which is more likely as a reason for what she said.

Doubtless there'll be some chinless wonder at the Tory conference advocating wholesale privatisation of health.

And other nonsense even worse probably.

    Won't happen.

Corbyn will soon be in number 10 whatever happens

Laura Smith is as dense as iridium. What an absolute gift for Tory Central Office and a hostile media just longing for a Labour speaker to say something stupid. Well done, Laura. NOT!

Daft thing to say. We need common sense to defeat the Tories, and we will. This speech is stupid.

Four of the top eight threads on here as I write this are about Corbyn...

A lot of interest in someone who has no chance of being elected.

Where are all the Vince Cable threads?

    May?

    Johnson?

    Rees-Mogg?

Tories on the whole aren't dense - just selfish, greedy and asocial.

My grandmother (widowed with five children under eleven years old) did B&B for some of the coppers who policed the 1926 strike. Living in a tied house belonging to the local mine owner, she may have had a better sense of self-preservation than Laura, though, as a lifelong Tory battleaxe, I doubt that she cared. No doubt there was flak from some of the neighbours but she would certainly have chewed up the shrapnel and spat it back. I knew her only as a sweet little old lady but my Dad (a lifelong Labourite) recalled being raised by an iron hand in a mailed gauntlet..

I wonder how many of the anti ,derogatory speaking and downright rude folks have actually dealt with some one called a tory/I do wonder as you seem to give out right condemnation without pointing out whom and for what ,and that it is your view rather than a statement of fact, which is the way you portray it.
In my life i ave meet many folks from all walks of life,,,,,tory labour and leb dems and a few others.I have never found them really nasty pre see,or indeed willing to be so rude as some posters on these boards.
A n opinion is fine, but label the individual or group for an antction, and not just sticking a label and believing that is fine and provides enough explanation.
