    Hi all,

I been appointed Head of Science and Maths (I am a Science Specialist) and have been reviewing the Maths Curriculum and grades. They aren't very good in Maths and I am looking into reasons why. The KS3 curriculum isn't very challenging and isn't transiting very well from KS3 - KS4 and also KS2 - KS3.

What curriculum does everyone else use in their schools? Any one got any recommendations?

    Thanks in advance

if you want to look at KS2 to KS3 have a good look at White Rose planning and resourcing. You will quickly see a mismatch between the expectation in KS2 and most Year 7 planning. In fact you'll probably find much of the Year 9 curriculum is the same as Year 4. Even better visit your feeder schools, BUT don't wait til the Summer, you need to be in there as soon as poss after Christmas and compare the work rate of pupils to that n Year 7/8
You also need to look at the marking expectations. Year 7 arrive having had work marked most if not every day and quickly get demotivated by books marked once a month if they are lucky. That does not mean the books are marked every day out of lesson, almost all of that will be done while the teacher works around the room.
