KS3 Gifted and talented Workshops

Hi,
We've been tasked with putting together a series of two hour workshops for year 8s.
We need to enhance: group work; lateral thinking; langauge skills. Does anyone know if/where resources exist that can be boiught/adapted/used as guidance as I can find precious little practical guides on the Dfes sites.
I feel I need to see how others have done it before I start adlibbing....

Maybe look for somekind of game that involves the students to work as a team in order to overcome their obstacle. Try Googling teamwork problem solving activity or games. That's probably where I would start looking.
