I have a booklet for teachers I downloaded a few years ago if you want me to send it to you - aimed at secondary I feel, but it may be of help to you.
I would focus on instruments of indian music, and features - drone, melody, rhythm and improvisation.
You could try using tuned percussion to improvise on a raga over a drone.
Songs - Dham dham in Banana Splits is very easy, Ame Sau Val tara and Under the lemon tree are on singup.
