As people start to think about planning for the new academic year, many will be teaching new and unfamiliar history units in KS2. Over the last year, I worked with some colleagues to draw together some starting-point resources to help teachers with subject knowledge and investigation ideas for each of the new statutory and optional units in Years 3-6, including tricky ones like Benin, West Africa or the Indus Valley civilization.

These 'cheat sheets' are available to download from the TES Resource bank for free at

Hope they're of use to folk.

Hi Michaelt1979 - Thank you for these - I think they are invaluable. Do you have any plans to do anything similar for KS1?

Brilliant resource. Please can you put the sheets on separately so that they would come up in the search for each topic - e.g. if you search for Indus Valley just that sheet would come up not the whole pack? Thanks.
