I'm new to Year 3 and have never taught French before. As my French is very, very limited I wondered if anyone could help me. Are there any really useful websites/games/songs that you have found useful that you could recommend?

    Thank you!

There is still quite a lot of help out there. There may still be a Languages Consultant in your area, worth checking first.

There may be a Primary Languages Hub organised by ALL:

Some ideas for resources here too:

    Lightbulb Languages is useful: http://lightbulblanguages.co.uk/

Sue Cave Languages is good too: http://www.cavelanguages.co.uk/

As is Janet Lloyd Network: http://www.janetlloyd.net/ There are many more....

    For resources try TTS:

http://www.tts-group.co.uk/shops/tts/Range/French-Resources/ec314057-6b4c-44d6-9a6e-263d0cf17c0f?pagesize=-1 Or better still send for a copy of their paper catalogue.

Suggest you also post your query over on the MFL forum; you should get a good response. Or do a search there; there have been many questions like this.

    Good Luck

  4. Search for, and join, the Facebook group 'Languages in Primary Schools. It's fab for ideas and a great support network.

Some simple things which my French Club enjoy are games like Twister where you blue-tack French colour names over the colours on the spinner plus 'left hand' 'right foot' etc changed to French and the children have to say the French colours/body parts etc while playing. Also dominoes are a good way to learn numbers. If your town is twinned with a French town there might be the possibility of contacting a school and children e-mailing eachother etc?

Try Out of the Ark Music, they have a single French title with songs and linked activities on a CD ROM called Chantons Tous Les Jours

Please consider doing a search for Primary Languages on the MFL forum. It is a topic that has been discussed frequently with plenty of useful, practical replies.

Linguafun - you can subscribe as an individual or whole school. Lots of games built on repetition of words and phrases.

Linguascope.com is a great website for KS2, KS3 adn even KS4. Lovely pictures + vocab+ puzzles and games. My classes love it. Also has worksheets. Subscription is about £300/year, though. Well worth it if the school is prepared to pay.

That forum has been going many years (under a different name or host if I remember correctly) but has absolutely loads of knowledgeable, helpful people and resources.
