Job Seeking and the pain of applications

Discussion in 'Jobseekers' started by bombermanuk, Feb 15, 2012.

  1. I am having a few issues with this (to say the least) and wondered what people thought.

I chased some feedback from an application a few weeks ago and the reply I got back was '117 applications and 10 taken to interview'

My subject is ICT. I have been a web programmer, run my own business and 14 years of experience in the industry. Qualified in 2011 and have a temporary contract PT in FE until June.

I have recently been OTL'd and got a 1 (the only 1 in the department), but I still think the application is failing me.

Now here is the issue: I got a 2:2 in my degree in Computing 11 years ago, and have been a relatively high earner. I didn't go into this for the money but for the love of it. Having followed all the tips about applications and my statement, does anyone see a problem with the degree or my background?

Looking forward to properly starting my NQT year but it's going to be difficult without a job! Any feedback at all is welcome :)

    No.
Too many applicants, their letters/experience shone more, maybe they wanted someone with more teaching experience... Depressing for us all but its the way it is, too many people chasing too few jobs x

  4. Another issue are schools that do not give feedback, but with the amount of applications I cannot really blame them. The only positive at the moment is with the governments shake up of ICT in schools they may start to look for specialists rather than have the subject taught by maths or business teachers.
