Hi, I have an interview coming up this Friday for a position teaching Drama and a bit of KS3 English. I am a Drama specialist and have never taught English, and sure enough they want an English lesson for the interview... The lesson is 25 mins to 14 mixed ability Year 8s, they want: "using drama within the lesson, get the group to engage with and enjoy either a very short extract of Shakespeare or a poem of your choice." My instant thought was Macbeth, looking at the language in one of the Witches scenes, possibly using soundscape to set the atmosphere as the 'drama' element. But I've developed the fear that they'll have done it 15 times and will be totally bored... Can anyone suggest a better, less known idea? Also, could I have some suggestions about the type of drama activities English teachers would normally do? I'm used to full blown drama in a studio, I'm a bit lost with this! Thanks in advance!
