It is Mother's Day in Germany

Discussion in 'Cookery' started by anon3372, May 8, 2011.

  1. So far, I have had ONE cup of tea made, lol.
Son is off "jamming" but has rung to suggest we meet in the cafe at 4 (tis Mother's Day you know, Mum) and daughter has done lots of tidying up (and written a list of "how to keep the house tidy" rules, God help me).
She also handwrote (in painstaking joined up writing in fountain pen) a poem for me (on music paper, as she thought it "added to the look") and drew lots of pictures on it and learnt it off by heart and recited it this morning.
And son - oh, I could weep - has composed a piece of music for me. He had hidden it on his (not for public viewing) web space for me.
    I am a lucky Mummy.

    Happy Mother's Day CQ!
(I had Mum come round today - it's the 'quieter' of her two Mother's Days!)

(Oh and when I learned to use a fountain pen - age 10, it was pencil up until then! - we always used Music Paper - the five lines helped us to get the letters the right size - and even too.)
  3. Yes, I think it is a "German" thing. She chose yellow paper.
  4. This is this year's poem btw, Beth - from Rosmarie Neie

Von allen Müttern auf der Welt
ist keine, die mir so gefällt
wie meine Mutter, wenn sie lacht,
mich ansieht oder gar nichts macht.
Auch wenn sie aus dem Fenster winkt
und mit mir rodelt, mit mir singt
und nachts in Ruhe bei mir sitzt,
    wenn's draußen wettert, donnert, blitzt,
und wenn sie sich mit mir versöhnt,
und wenn ich krank bin mich verwöhnt -
ja, was sie überhaupt auch tut,
ich mag sie immer, bin ihr gut.

Und hin und wieder wundert's mich,
daß wir uns fanden - sie und ich.

    Happy Mothers Day!
  7. Ta all - son and I ended up having a right argy bargy - we are soooooooooooooo alike and drive each other mad. Two Leos on one patch is never good news.
But we made up and giggled.
Daughter just rolled her eyes at us. Poor mite. Ex just sighed.

29th May is Mothers' Day here! three weeks to go!
  9. Is it always at the end of May in France?
It is always the second Sunday in May here.
And Christi Himmelfahrt (Ascension Day) is always Father's Day (the Thursday is always a bank holiday, most of our bank holidays are Church Days and are always free on the actual day, not e.g. on the Monday after as in the UK).
That unfortunately means that holidays which fall on the weekend mean you get no extra day off [IMG]
